Incorporating fixes to networking and menus, as well as using the latest MEPIS kernel, antix 8.5 Beta 2 is available from this repo and should be seen soon on the mirrors. I am very excited about this test release!

I experienced a rare issue with one of the early test versions of antiX M8.5, and I was concerned that I may have to withhold my unqualified recommendation of this release, so I was VERY eager to test out a newer Beta test version, and I am once again delighted to report that antiX M8.5 is right back on track, even in Beta test stage, with a good, solid, smoothly working system.
Apparently the first internal test version had a few unexpected quirks. I am extremely proud of the great work that the team is doing, and I am especially excited about the use of a few different applications in this particular version. For me, the inclusion of Iceape is a real plus, since I tend to download the Seamonkey browser when I am using either SimplyMEPIS or antiX to complement what is included by default. Iceape is a very solid browser. Those of you old enough to remember the classic Mozilla and Netscape Internet Suites will be comfortable with Iceape. While it is not quite as easily customizable as Firefox, it has plenty of add-ons, including the almost obligatory ad block add-on. I am using Iceape right now with antiX M8.5 Beta 2; it is fast, smooth, and like SimplyMEPIS, it works better than many already released systems!
I recommend community users test it and help find any remaining issues - if there are any remaining!
I congratulate anticapitalista for yet another fine job and I thank the many other test participants for working so hard to make this yet another outstanding release! Keep plugging at it and help make this one EVEN BETTER!
