Wireless again and thoughts on desktop environments.

I've noticed recently that there have been a few people struggling to get USB Wireless Network adaptors to work. As I mentioned in a previous post, I've had no issues! I think the key is, you need to do a bit of research to find an adaptor that seems to work well in Linux. This is true to a greater or lesser extent with any hardware, I suppose. In any case, Google is your friend! Certainly, there are going to be cases where you maybe already have hardware that doesn't work as easily as it might. For those cases, get as much info about make/model etc. and then hit Google and/or the forums. Even if the outcome is that you've got no chance of getting whatever it is working, at least you'll know! However, probably in most cases someone will have a fix!

The other thing recently is, I definitely prefer KDE over Gnome! At least the way they're implemented by Mepis and the PCLinuxOS community respectively, which I'm sure is pretty representative of each environment if not better than most. The reason for my preference is the same as has been documented previously by many KDE fans. Gnome isn't as easy to customise! I'm sure it'd be fine for someone who just wants a good looking desktop out of the box and I'm planning to stick with it on my secondary PC just to gain some experience with it. However, I've already had to replace a native Gnome application for it's KDE equivalent. Basic Bluetooth functions don't seem to work as well as they should with what was available for Gnome. I could receive files, but not send. KDEBluetooth has no such issues, even running on a primarily Gnome PC!
