I've been reading two interesting articles today. One good, the other not so positive.
Starting with the bad news, It seems from this that Microsoft have backtracked somewhat on their touchy feely open loving stance in favour of picking off easy targets. TomTom don't seem to have been doing too well of late, so it's a bit underhand of Microsoft to set their lawyers on them just to try and prove some kind of point. It's not hard to come to the conclusion that MS are attempting to back up their claim of a few years back that the Linux kernel somehow infringes on their 'intellectual property'.
To counterbalance that, there's this! News that the UK Government seems to have caught on to the fact that forking out untold amounts of taxpayers' money on proprietary licenses may not be making the best use of our hard earned money. Even here, there may well be hidden motives. Is it purely co-incidence that this comes out so soon after opposition parties made the point that Open Source needs to be given more consideration?
