Over the past few weeks (Most recently an article dated yesterday.) I’ve seen a couple of news items regarding someone displaying ignorance about Linux and/or FOSS, possibly in all innocence, and being ripped to shreds by some fairly nasty comments posted in response to the story. I think the realisation is there, but it’s worth saying again! Those of us who are interested in promoting Linux need to be careful to try to show people who seem to have been taken in by FUD that they have been mislead, instead of reacting with what could end up as an out and out rant!
Probably the best way of doing this is to direct people to this site and others like it that have been specifically set up to make our favourite distro that little bit more newbie friendly. It’s a lot better feeling helping educate someone rather than making fun of them by pointing out how stupid they just made themselves appear. Hopefully, we’ll see even less of the response in the title than we do now.
