Website Development Project

In the Summer of 2008, a group of us volunteers began the MEPIScommunity.org website Project. Our goal is to provide a website that —while independent of the official website— will be the focal point for the MEPIS Linux user community. We want to provide, at a bare minimum:

MEPIS Community Website Project
  • The latest news about official and community MEPIS Linux development.
  • Guides for beginners and intermediate users of Linux: How to do what you need to do in MEPIS Linux.
  • Links to the most useful sites that will help you understand how to really use that box you own!
  • A headquarters for MEPIS Community Projects

Currently, SilverBear heads the Project by election of the project members. His vision is to organize the MEPIS User's Community into self-governing Projects that can then participate on an equal footing in the MEPIS Community website. While SilverBear currently owns the Domain Name "MEPIScommunity.org" and is Project Director, he considers his role to be transitional, and would like to see the following permanent structure for governance of the Website Project:

Project Director: to be elected by all members of the Project
Assistant Project Director: to be elected by all members of the Project
Content Webmaster: to be elected by all members of the Project
Project Admin: currently peregrine, without whom we would not have Hosting space nor adequate Drupal web and database administration. Admin-for Life, or until she decides to step down.
Project Directors: each MEPIS Project should elect a Director who will serve as a member/editor of the Website Project. Currently recognized Projects are listed on the Projects Page. More Projects can always be created, as the community sees the need.
Language Department Heads: Those willing and able to translate MEPIScommunity.org content into languages other than English are organized under Deparment heads who are automatically Members of the Website Project.
MEPISlovers.org: Site Admin blue_genjutsu is assumed to have a permanent seat on the MEPIScommunity.org board.
MEPIS.org: While this is not an official website or subsidiary of MEPIS LLC, MEPIS Linux developer Warren Woodford is assumed to have a permanent seat on the board.

At some point in the near future, SilverBear would like to have a charter drawn up, outlining the governance of the Website Project, and a schedule of elections for board membership seats. This will be open for discussion and vote. Whenever it is appropriate, he will sign over ownership of the domain name mepiscommunity.org to the next Website Project Director.

And so it goes. . .
Use the Contact form to send your thoughts and ideas for the Website to the current Director. He tries to pretend that he listens. . .
