For the first time since they were developed, the MEPIS tools will be released to the Linux community under an Apache license when M8 comes out. Members of the MEPIS community are beginning to work through the code, looking for ways to improve it, remove bugs, and adapt it to new uses. This should produce some interesting community contributions, so stay tuned!
