Last night I managed to get my Nokia N900 tethered to my Mepis 8.0 laptop. It was one of those things where little bits of info from various sources slowly slotted together until all the promising signs of progress came together in a proper network connection!
Amongst the other things that contributed to eventual success, I feel that dumping kppp and replacing it with gnome-ppp was a big help, along with piecing together what initialisation string I needed to add. I’d love to put together a step by step tutorial but unfortunately, I didn’t document all the steps I took. Even if I did it might be tricky to pick out what I tried that was, at first, counter productive. For anyone else wanting to get themselves a similar setup, a fair whack of patience and some time with Google should get you there in the end…
